► Labour federation files formal complaints over Hazte Oír, VOX campaigns
► CCOO says mass-mailing to schools is clearly homophobic, attacking diversity
Spain’s largest labour federation, the Comisiones Obreras (CCOO, Workers’ Commissions), has filed complaints on behalf of teachers and staff with two government agencies against ultra-conservative group Hazte Oír, the website Mishijosmidecisión.org (“My children, my decision”) and far-right political party VOX.
According to a statement issued by the CCOO, formal complaints have been filed with the Dirección General de Asuntos Sociales de Madrid (Directorate General of Social Affairs of Madrid) for publishing a list of schools where students participate in lessons and activities designed to discourage homophobia and support LGBT rights and with the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos Spanish Agency for Data Protection for the “massive and unauthorized” sending the list along with a brochure promoting a nationwide scheme known as the “Parental PIN” in an unauthorized mass-mailing to 23,000 schools in the Madrid region.
The “Parental PIN” project being promoted by Hazte Oír would give parents the ability to demand advance information about any school activity related to education about sexual diversity, gender identity and non-traditional family models — and the right to veto their children’s participation in such activities.
In the words of Hazte Oír, the Parental PIN would enable parents to “regain control over the content to which our children are exposed in the classrooms without our consent and protect them from the barbarities of LGBTI laws” currently in force in Spain’s regional autonomous communities.
According to Isabel Galvín, the secretary general of the CCOO’s Federación de Enseñanza representing teachers and school staff throughout Spain, the labour federation has filed the complaints because it believes Hazte Oír’s aim in targeting centers of education is “to create hostility and hatred against the LGTBI collective, thereby disrupting democratic coexistence and fomenting homophobia”.
