• Protesters draw attention to use of animal skins in leather fashion wear
More than 100 animal-rights protesters doffed their clothes in the chilly December temperatures of Barcelona on Sunday to protest the use of animal skins in apparel wear.
In its 10th consecutive year, the annual protest sponsored by AnimaNaturalis International saw protesters from multiple countries strip themselves and cover their naked bodies with fake blood to protest the killing of animals in order to use their skins in clothing.
The protesters held aloft signs that read in English, Spanish and Catalá, “How Many Lives Just for a coat?” and directed passers-by to the organization’s campaign website at www.sin.piel.org.
The protest, staged in Barcelona’s central Placa de Catalunya and a few metre’s walk away from the city’s high-end Passeig de Gracia shopping boulevard, took aim at the demand for leather garments that organizers said are wrongly associated with fashion and luxury.
