• Patients’ organisation says healthcare forgotten since general elections •
A national patient’s rights group, the Plataforma de Organizaciones de Pacientes has said that the issue of better healthcare for Spaniards has all but disappeared from the political agenda following the Dec. 20th general elections and called on the nation’s poltical parties to make it a priority in negotiations to install a new government.
The organization, which serves as an umbrella federation for 26 organizations representing people suffering from chronic diseases, said that political parties seeking to form a coalition government should seek partners who share a commitment to the availability of innovative healthcare treatment for Spaniards and to ensuring a sufficient healthcare budget to enable adequate treatment for both chronic and currently incurable diseases.
The group also called for modification of healthcare legislation to include norms that guarantee representation of patients’ viewpoints at all decision-making levels within Spain’s National Health Service and at all national, regional and local levels nationwide.
