• Acción contra el Hambre ~ Action Against Hunger (ACT International)
Acción contra el Hambre is the Spanish affiliate of international non-governmental aid agency Action Against Hunger – ACT International.
Founded in France in 1979 as Action Contre La Faim, ACT operates worldwide through five country offices in Europe and North America, seeking to alleviate hunger and malnutrition resulting from poverty, famine, drought, war and other man-made and natural catastrophies worldwide.
Like its country counterparts in France, the UK, the USA and Canada, Acción contra el Hambre operates independently in Spain as a non-governmental organization with its own Board of Trustees, supporting ACT International’s poverty- and hunger-alleviation work through programmes in more than 40 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe that are most threatened by hunger.
Public funding accounts for 80 percent of the organization’s budget and an estimated 90 percent of its expenditures go directly toward the poverty-alleviation projects it supports around the world.
