Spain’s Federación Estatal de Lesbianas, Gais, Transexuales y Bisexuales (National Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals and Bisexuals) is the largest LGBT association in Spain, coordinating the efforts of more than 50 local and regional LGBT organisations, as well as a wide variety of groups representing LGBT students, athletes, people with disabilities, those living with HIV, LGBT faith communities, migrants and many more.
FELGTB works to demand legal equality and social respect for sexual diversity at the local, regional and national levels, while continually striving to raise public awareness and disseminate information to the media and the general public about LGBT issues and rights, and conducting empowerment and training programs for FELGTB activists and those of its LGBT member associations.
The organization offers a variety of services to Spain’s LGBT communities, including counseling and support to LGBT youth and their families, employment counselling and educational outreach that includes talks by FELGBT activists about sexual diversity in schools across the country.
The Federation also works closely with a variety of other organizations — including labour unions, political parties, human rights organisations, student unions and parent associations, feminist groups and religious organisations — to promote greater awareness and acceptance of sexual diversity in Spanish society.
