Electric vehicle sales jump nearly 200% in January, buyers seeing hybrids & electrics as real alternative

• Hybrid sales up 45% in same period, says ANFAC industry association •

The number of electric vehicles sold in Spain during the first month of 2016 has jumped by nearly 200 percent, with the 242 vehicles already sold in January equivalent to 10 percent of all electric autos sold during the entire year of, according to Spain’s ANFAC auto industry association.

At the same time, the number of hybrid electric-fuel vehicles grew by nearly 45 percent in January, bringing the number of hybrid vehicles on the road in Spain at the beginning of 2016 to a total of 2,127.

According to ANFAC figures just released, Spain’s alternative combustion vehicles now account for 3 percent of the entire auto market nationwie, with electric and hybrid vehicles starting to be seen by Spanish car owners as a real alternative to vehicles powered by fossil-fuel burning internal combustion engines.
