The philanthropic foundation of Spain’s Mutua Madrileña insurance group has announced that 23,000 euros collected through the organization’s annual gala Christmas concerts this year will be donated to the activities of the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR, or ACNUR in Spanish) and the Spanish anti-poverty NGO Ayuda en Acción (Aid in Action).

The donations come directly from proceeds of ticket sales from two Christmas concerts organized by the Fundación Mutua Madrileña, held Dec. 10th and 11th at the National Auditorium of Music in Madrid.

The concerts, attended by policyholders and customers of the Mutua Madrileña group, featured renowned orchestra director Inma Shara and the Czech National Symphony Orchestra.

The donation to the UNHCR will go toward its initiatives in support of Syrian refugees and specifically in the purchase and delivery of thermal blankets for refugees sheltered in transit camps in central Europe. The donation to Action Aid will go toward its programs in Spain to help children and families at risk of poverty and/or social exclusion, including the funding of school meals, supplies and excursions.
