►’We Are Fair Trade’ campaign to raise public awareness of fair-trade benefits
More than 50 cities and towns across Spain will celebrate World Fair Trade Day 2019 on Saturday 11th May, with festivals and exhibits celebrating the growing fair-trade movement in Spain and calling on consumers to join the international fair-trade movement to fight against global poverty and inequality by purchasing and using fair-trade products in their daily lives.
From Madrid to Menorca, local fair-trade organizations will participate in the celebration in the following locations and more (Click on highlighted links for information):
Andalucía (Cádiz, Córdoba, Granada, Málaga); Aragon (Huesca, Zaragoza); Castilla-La Mancha (Albacete, Cuenca); Castilla-León (Zamora); CATALONIA (Barcelona, Girona, Lleida); Valencian Community (Alicante, Castellón, Valencia); Extremadura; Balearic Islands; Galicia (Lugo, Ourense); Madrid; Murcia; Navarra; and the Basque Country (Araba, Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa).
Fair Trade organizations around the world celebrate World Fair Trade Day falls on the second Saturday of May each year. Local fair trade groups around the world conduct campaigns to raise public awareness of the benefits of consuming fair-trade products and presenting festive events that celebrate fair trade’s contributions to sustainable development and economic empowerment of small producers, gender equality and responsible production practices in developing countries.
The international fair-trade movement includes some 2,000 producer organizations spread across 75 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, providing jobs for more than than 2 million people under fair and equitable work conditions and environmentally sustainable production methods.
