Barcelona mayor and leader of the Barcelona en Comú activist platform Ada Colau has joined Valencia region Vice-President Monica Oltra of the Compromís coalition, national Izquierda Unida (IU) leader Alberto Garzón and other figures on Spain’s political left in singing onto the new “Plan B” anti-austerity campaign promoted by former Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis, Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz and others.

Organizers say they plan to hold a three-day “Plan B” European conference in Madrid from Feb. 19th-21st to debate the socio-economic future of Europe and lay the basis for building a global network of support for the anti-austerity campaign.

The Plan B architects say they hope to create a broad movement of those who oppose the current EU model inorder to build “an agenda of goals, projects and actions with the ultimate goal of breaking the EU’s austerity regime and radically democratizing European institutions.”
