Barcelona’s activist mayor Ada Colau has excorciated Spain’s Socialist party (PSOE) for having ceded two of its seats in the Senate in Madrid to the pro-independence CDC and ERC parties, while refusing to help her Podemos-backed En Comú Podem and two other regional alliances obtain separate parliamentary groups in the Congress.

In an interview with radio SER, Colau criticized the Socialists for what she said was first doing a deal with the conservative ruling Partido Popular (PP) to seat PSOE politician Patxi Lopez as the Speaker of the Congress, then turning around and giving two of its Senate seats to the Catalan secessionist parties in a gesture of goodwill.

The problem, Colau charged, is that the PSOE “is publicly saying one thing and then doing another. It’s betraying its voters.”
